Our Digital Silkscreen Collection is Q&S Shop’s original concept: designs with bold, layered, color-confident images intended to mimic silkscreening using DTG printing. The result is distinct from traditional silkscreening; rather than force the artifice, we chose to keep its wabi-sabi authenticity and originality.
An identity portrait is a type of digital silkscreen that is composed of symbolism that makes up the subject’s character traits and heritage. Tara the Malinois is named after the Tibetan Buddhist bodhisattva of compassion and action, also known as the savior of souls lost in Samsara, the karmic cycle of reincarnation.
Tara’s symbolism in this digital silkscreen identity portrait:
The four elements are represented by the earthen colors of her muzzle, overlayed with Buddhist clouds for air. The water droplets and blue represent life-giving, cleansing purity as she emerges from the Eternal Ocean. The fire in her ears is for her selfless courage, leaping into life-threatening danger to rescue those in need. Her red feathers represent another kind of flame: the purifying fire in which offerings of gratitude are burned.
The purple face mask is an imperial color, marking her as empress of dogs; likewise, the gold of her mane is Chinese imperial yellow, which she wears as a mantle representing absolute power and possession of the Mandate of Heaven; it’s also the color of Eastern monks, signifying sacrifice in devotion to her path.
Her throat and neck crackle with tech circuitry, representing singular, unemotional focus of purpose. The cyan tidal wave down the side of her neck represents the overwhelming disasters she confronts without question, with complete selflessness. The sonar overlay in her ears references her ability to hear sounds that are inaudible to humans — she is ever-alert, and heeding the cries of those in need of rescue, a helping hand, or protection from danger.
